5.170.3

(fix): fern check no longer reports “No API definition found” for docs-only projects that reference their API specs inline from docs.yml (api navigation items with specs) and keep the spec in an openapi/ or asyncapi/ directory without a generators.yml. A directory that docs.yml does not reference still reports the error.

5.170.2

(fix): Wait up to 18 minutes for an sdk-gen-api build so its 15-minute build timeout is reported first. When the wait expires, the CLI checks the build status once more and fails with an internal error instead of a network error if the build is still running. Failed targets now show the sdk-gen-api error code with the message (for example, FERN_BUILD_TIMEOUT: ...).

5.170.1

(fix): When fern generate cannot resolve an SDK version for an sdk-gen-api generation (for example, an MCP server generator with local file output and no package registry), the error now tells you to pass one with --version instead of only reporting that the version could not be resolved.

5.170.0

(feat): Initialize new SDK projects with sdk-config.yml instead of generators.yml by default. Set FERN_USE_SDK_CONFIG=false to temporarily use the legacy initialization path.

5.169.0

(feat): Docs versions accept default: true, so the version that owns the unversioned URLs no longer has to be first in the versions list. The list order still sets the order in the version switcher, so a Develop version can be listed first while a release such as 3.3.0 serves / and every unversioned page, the sitemap, canonical URLs, and llms.txt:

versions:
- display-name: Develop
ref: develop
availability: preview
- display-name: 3.3.0
default: true
path: ./versions/latest.yml

The flag works on site-level versions and on products[].versions, and a default version can use either path or ref. Setting default: true on more than one version in the same list, or on a version with hidden: true, is a configuration error. Without the flag, the first version is still the default.

(feat): Add settings.require-analytics-consent to docs.yml. When enabled, Fern’s built-in docs analytics (PostHog) stays off until the page sets window.fernAnalyticsConsent = true and dispatches a fern-analytics-consent event, e.g. from a consent manager callback.
